Local Verdict
"The gold standard for garden manzanitas. Tree-like form, mahogany bark, and reliable health make it a focal point."
Overview
'Dr. Hurd' is a selection of the common manzanita chosen for its impressive size and garden tolerance. Unlike many wild manzanitas that are finicky about water, 'Dr. Hurd' is more forgiving, though it still demands drainage.
It naturally grows into a multi-trunked, small tree form, showing off its smooth, dark red bark. Clusters of white urn-shaped flowers appear in winter, providing vital nectar for hummingbirds.
