Local Verdict
"Massive yellow blooms stop traffic. The fuzz on the leaves is irritating, so plant it where people won't brush against it."
Overview
In late spring, Flannel Bush becomes a solid wall of golden-yellow hibiscus-like flowers. It is arguably the showiest native shrub in our flora.
However, it demands respect. The leaves are covered in fuzzy hairs that can irritate skin, and it has absolutely zero tolerance for summer water. Plant it on a back perimeter and admire from a distance.
